Deafened and not dim, dumb, nor diminished!
Late 2007 ALDA-Maine events:
ALDA Maine was honored to offer a Presentation about hearing loss and needs for real time captioning at the annual meeting of the Maine Court Reporters Association during late summer, 2007.
ALDA Maine was represented by President LS at the annual national conference of ALDA in Rochester, NY in September 2007. She also offered a workshop on leadership, and was surprised by a special award for "fearless leader" from the ALDA national Board.
Later in the Fall, ALDA-Maine was included in the Portland Public Library Special Speaker Series to provide CART for famous Maine author Richard Russo. Over 500 people were there to learn about hearing loss and CART.
ALDA Maine offered another workshop in November 2007 in Rockland to the annual meeting of over 700 Emergency Service Workers in Maine. The focus of this workshop was hints for first responders on ways to communicate with deafened, hard of hearing and deaf people. For example, an Emergency Communication Card was demonstrated, and CART was used for the entire workshop.
In December, ALDA-Maine made special arrangements to be in Portland for MCD to offer a collaborative event on Civil Rights for deafened and HOH people, with CART.
Earlier notices about other 2007 ALDA-ME events:
ALDA MAINE is pleased to announce that CART (Real Time Captioning) is arranged for one of the special Speaker programs at the beautiful ROCKLAND PUBLIC LIBRARY this season. CART allows inclusion of deafened and hard of hearing people in this engaging community event. Please let others know about it. hursday July 19 at 6:30 PM
Tiffany Walker: The Law of Attraction & You
The Law of Attraction is the subject of the book The Secret, which has been featured on Oprah and has been on Amazon’s bestseller list for months. Tiffany Walker will talk with us about the Law of Attraction. “What we are experiencing in life is of our own creation. What we think about and what we feel emotionally, we receive. How do we create the life that we truly desire?" Tiffany Walker uses the Law of Attraction in her daily life and in her work as a facilitator of Law of Attraction groups, as well as a Reiki Teacher, an Animal Communicator, and an Excitement Coach.
Rockland Public Library has easy parking and modern meeting room facilities. Please see the Library website for directions. There is ample parking at the back door, and more nearby on the street and another larger parking area. See www.rocklandlibrary.org/: <http://www.rocklandlibrary.org/> and "About Us" for information.

April 21, 2007: ALDA-MAINE is pleased to announce that the Maine Community Foundation has awarded us a first grant for outreach and to establish our new Chapter on a firmer footing in Maine. Our Mission is clear - to advocate for all deafened and hard of people in all parts of Maine.
The grant will help ALDA in Maine pay for more meetings with real time captioning - CART - our required means of listening to a speaker and talking among ourselves for information about hearing loss and for support. Thank you Maine Community Foundation, and the Knox County Fund and the Cummings Fund (both compenents of MCF who, combined, awarded ALDA-MAINE this grant).
If you are a member, or if you wish to join us and arrange CART for one of your local meetings, please get in touch with us NOW via email.
